My story is similar to many of yours. When my oldest daughter was just 18 months old, we had take-out from our favourite Thai restaurant. We gave her a small serving of rice and vegetables, and within seconds of taking her first bite, she stuck her tongue out and scratched at it profusely. A minute later, hives began breaking out all over her neck and face. We quickly administered Benadryl and ran to the car. By the time we arrived at the hospital five minutes later, her face had begun to swell. We rushed through the doors of the ER in a complete panic. It was the beginning of our journey into the allergy world.
By the time my second daughter was born a month later, we felt somewhat comfortable with EpiPens and a peanut-free diet. Then, just three days after her birth, we were rushing back to the hospital. Our second was diagnosed with a severe dairy and soy intolerance. Since I was nursing, it meant a whole new kitchen cleanse. I felt completely frustrated, mad, and oh so hungry! It took quite some time to become familiar with a new set of rules, but we did it with the help of companies like Blue Bear Aware. 2012 marked the arrival of our third child and we have our fingers crossed she remains allergy-free.
